How to spend one day in Sydney

During our recent sunshine coast trip, we decided to stop over in Sydney for one day before heading back home to South Africa.

Sydney is massive! We bravely took on the task of trying to see as much as possible in one day. After spending all day out and about we went to bed that evening, with achingly sore feet, satisfied that we had conquered our quest to see Sydney in one day.

Bondi to Bronte

We started our morning catching an Uber to Bondi beach. Start your morning with a bagel and coffee and surf watch while you finish up breakfast. Once done, start embarking on the Bondi to Bronte coastal walk. The views are breath-taking and there are plenty of Instagram-worthy stops. Make sure to take an iconic picture at the Bondi Icebergs swimming pool.

Once done or whenever you have seen enough, catch an Uber to Ovolo Woolloomooloo.

Sydney Botanical Gardens and Opera House

Stroll through the gardens and make your way to the Farm Cove lookout to get an awesome first view of the Sydney Opera House and the city skyline. From there, follow the path until you get to the steps of the iconic Opera House.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Once you have taken enough selfies to last a life time, walk along the Circular Quay until you get to the steps of the harbour bridge. Use Google maps for this one as we had to try a few different routes to find the stairs. Walk along the bridge and get fantastic views of the Opera House. This is the best view in my opinion. Don’t pay to go up the towers as the view from the bridge is perfect.

City Centre

Grab a cheap bite to eat and walk to the Queen Victoria Building to take in all its glory. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of construction going on during this time, but we were still able to get a good look before heading off for some shopping. Make a quick stop at Sephora (this is a must ladies) and wonder around some more. We didn’t stay too long as we knew our time was ticking.

St Mary’s Cathedral and Chinese Garden of Friendship

Make your way to St Mary’s Cathedral and take a quick tour of the inside before heading over to the Chinese Garden of Friendship. Take a stroll through the gardens and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Take a walk to Darling harbour and watch the sunset before calling an Uber to head back to the Opera House.

Vivid Sydney

If you are lucky enough to be in town during the annual light show, make sure to take in all its glory. The show extends from the Opera House all the way through the botanical gardens. Once done catch an Uber to one of the best spots to eat,  Din Tai Fung. After enjoying some of THE Best dumplings you will ever have, head home and take in the magnitude of steps you have accomplished in one day.
